How To Get Azerbaijan Visa

Azerbaijan is located in the southeastern region of Europe, on the western coast of the Caspian Sea. It is bordered by Armenia, Georgia, Iran, and Russia. Citizens of most countries require a visa to enter Azerbaijan. Requirements vary depending on the nationality of the traveler, the purpose of the visit, and the duration.

Exceptions include citizens of Georgia, Iran, Turkey, and some members of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Most visitors to Azerbaijan require a valid passport and have to arrange a visa in advance.

Visa application processes vary depending on the country of origin and desired length of stay. Tourists are required to present proof of sufficient financial means, proof of a valid return or onward ticket, and proof of accommodation.

Azerbaijan visa requirements for South Africans

South African citizens require a visa to travel to Azerbaijan. Visas can be obtained from the Azerbaijan Embassy in Pretoria. However, there is an even easier way to obtain a visa if your purpose of the visit is for a shorter stay.

The processing time for a visa to Azerbaijan depends on several factors, including the type of visa you are requesting and the country from which you are applying. The processing time for an eVisa to Azerbaijan is 3-7 business days. For a traditional visa, the processing time can range from 4-6 weeks.

Required documents

A valid South African passport with at least 6 months validity from the date of arrival in Azerbaijan.

A completed visa application form

Two recent passport-size photos

A letter from the employer or university confirming the purpose of the visit.

Proof of health insurance coverage.

Proof of financial means

Azerbaijan e-visa applications can be submitted online at the website of the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SMS). Applications must be submitted at least 5 days before departure. Applicants will need to provide a copy of their passport, a passport-sized photograph, a completed application form, and any other documents required.

Please read and take into consideration the following information about the eligibility for applying for an e-visa and COVID-19-related travel requirements to enter the territory of Azerbaijan.

Only citizens or stateless permanent residents of one of the following countries are eligible to apply for an e-visa on www.evisa.gov.az.

The validity of an Azerbaijani visa depends on the type of visa issued. Generally, a single-entry tourist visa is valid for up to 30 days, while a multiple-entry visa is valid for up to 90 days.

South African citizens need to apply for an e-visa to visit Azerbaijan. The entire application process is done online, so no need to visit an embassy or consulate unless you are applying for a long-term stay visa.

You will need to provide the following information when applying for the visa :

A valid passport with at least two blank pages

An up-to-date passport photo

Proof of accommodation in Azerbaijan

Proof of financial means

A confirmed flight ticket to and from Azerbaijan

A valid health insurance policy

You can apply for the e-visa on the Azerbaijan Electronic Visa Portal. The visa fee is USD 20 and the visa is valid for 90 days from the date of issue. It is also important to note that the e-visa is only valid for a single entry.

Travelers from most countries, including the United States, will need to obtain a visa in order to enter Azerbaijan. There are two types of visas available: single and multiple entry visas. For shorter stays, travelers must apply for an e-Visa online.

EU, US, and UK Residents

Citizens of EU countries, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, and a few other select countries are eligible for the e-Visa and can apply for it up to 30 days before their intended travel date.

For longer stays, travelers must obtain a Single or Multiple entry visa through their local Azerbaijani Consulate. Processing times vary, but travelers should prepare to apply for a visa as early as possible.

In order to apply for a visa, travelers will need to submit the following documents :

Completed visa application form

Valid passport with at least 6 months of validity remaining

Passport photos (2)

Copy of flight itinerary

Letter of invitation from an Azerbaijani organization or individual

Proof of sufficient funds

Recent bank statement

Pakistan Residents

The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Islamabad, Pakistan does not currently process visa applications for Pakistani citizens. However, Pakistanis can obtain an Azerbaijan e-visa online. The e-visa application process takes around three days to complete and requires Pakistani citizens to pay a fee of USD70.

Applicants must provide a valid passport, passport-size photograph, and proof of current address. The e-visa is valid for up to 90 days and can be used for single-entry or multiple-entry purposes.

Nigerian Residents

If you are from Nigeria, please note that Azerbaijan does not offer visas on arrival for Nigerian citizens. You will need to apply for a visa from the Azerbaijan Embassy in Abuja.

The Embassy can be contacted directly or through an authorized visa agent. The visa application will require you to fill out the appropriate forms and provide a valid copy of your passport, passport-sized photos, and financial documents to prove your ability to cover the costs of your trip.

Afterward, the Embassy of Azerbaijan will issue you a visa after your application has been reviewed.

UK Residents

Azerbaijan visas are required for all visitors and can be obtained from Azerbaijani embassies or consulates located in the UK. To obtain a visa, applicants must fill out the online visa application form, and provide a valid passport and two passport-sized photos.

There are instances where additional documents may be required, depending on the type of visa, additional documents (such as a hotel reservation, travel tickets, and/or a letter of invitation) may be required. Visa fees vary and must be paid online with a credit card.
